The hill of Ramtek near Nagpur attracts special attention because it has uninterrupted historical development.

This beautiful Ambala lake is surrounded by Ram Giri hill, Motha Parvat and Narayana Tekdi hills and has temples and Ghats defining one of its banks .It is segregated from the main town, because of the natural settings. It has evolved as one of the sacred places worship for the Hindu religion.
Ambala Lake At the foothills of the Ramtek Temple is an entity surrounded by the reminisces of Lord Rama and that of Narsimha, the slayer of the demon Hiranykashyapu.
The lake was formed after the fierce fight between Lord Vishnu, in his Narsimha Avatar, a half-man and half-lion incarnation, which kills the demon strategically as he keeps Lord Brahma’s benediction given to Hianyakashyapu intact.
It is believed that after killing the demon, Narsimha threw the cudgel of the demon with such force that it formed a huge crater at the foothills of Ramtek Temple, which is now known as the Ambala Lake.
The entire place seems to merge with its natural setting.
Several types of temple designs are on view at Ambala and the resulting diversity in form & detail of temples is unified by consistency in their scale and organization.
Ambala is indeed a rare example of water front development of such exquisite quality.Shri Ram Mandir complex on the Ramgiri hill is linked to the Ambala lake in the valley below with series of steps descending from the hill, this link being both physical and symbolic.
